Saleh Gamawa and Aminu Gadiya, Chieftains of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State, were jailed by the federal high court for receiving more than N142 million to influence the presidential election. 2015.
Two Chieftains of the PDP were sentenced to prison after being indicted on two counts by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The duo were first arrested on June 4, 2018 and re-arrested on October 16, 2018. They admitted "not guilty" upon arrest. EFCC spokesman Wilson Uwajuren said the PDP leaders had been found guilty of receiving money "in excess of the legal threshold specified by law". Judge Hassan Dikko sentenced the defendants to two years in the Bauchi Correctional Service with the option of a fine of N3 million each in lieu of jail time on the first charge. Gamawa received an additional two years in prison or a fine of 3 million naira in lieu of jail time for the second offence.
