12 vehicles destroyed, 2 burnt to death as petrol tanker explodes in Ogun


Two people consumed to death and a few vehicles were destroyed in a petrol tanker explosion that happened on Thursday, October 6 at Sango-Ota Old Cost Entryway Court, along the Lagos-Abeokuta street, Ogun State.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) affirmed that the episode happened in the early long hours of today, leaving three people with burns, and two dead.

FRSC representative in Ogun, Florence Okpe, let newsmen know that the tanker was rising the Ilo Awele slop, bordering the Abeokuta-Lagos part of the expressway, when it fell around 1:30am, spilled its substance and went up in flames.

Okpe said: "Men of the fire service were contacted immediately and the area was cordoned off to prevent a secondary crash."

She said "a total of 12 vehicles were involved, which comprised three luxury buses, four tricycles, three motorcycles, one yellow bus and a tanker."

Okpe continued: "A total of three persons were rescued to Ota General Hospital (two male adults and one female adult), seriously burnt.

"Two bodies burnt beyond recognition have been evacuated from the scene.

"The suspected cause of the multiple crash was mechanical deficiency. While ascending, the vehicle rolled back and got hooked. The content spilled off and there was fire outbreak."
