The arraignment in Manhattan on Tuesday afternoon marked a watershed moment in US history, as the businessman became the first former or sitting US president, dead or alive, to be arrested.

The grand jury indictment returned against Trump last week will provide public details about the specific charges he will face. The investigation stems from a hush money payment made during the 2016 presidential campaign to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.
Following his court appearance, Trump is scheduled to fly back to Florida and hold an event at Mar-a-Lago on Tuesday evening, giving the 2024 Republican presidential candidate an opportunity to respond to the charges.
The indictment by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is the first criminal charge leveled against Trump, but it is not the only legal trouble that the former president may face: Special counsel Jack Smith's investigation into Trump's role in the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol and the handling of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago continues. In addition, a Fulton County special grand jury has completed its investigation into efforts to overturn Georgia's 2020 election.
